Improved Q2 profit lifts Digital Video Systems
(DVID)
By Michael Baron
Digital Video Systems (DVID) is jumping 49 cents, or 35.3 percent, to
$1.88, after the San Jose, Calif., maker of DVD loaders reported second-quarter
earnings of $715,000, or a 12 cents a share, up from its year-ago profit
of $584,000, or 10 cents a share. Revenue rose to $42.6 million in the
latest three months from $33.6 million in the same period a year earlier.
The company said that it benefited from a "significant reduction"
in the costs of procured components during the quarter, and savings on
labor costs related to its joint venture in China. It believes it will
continue to benefit from these savings in the second half.
